Clothing recall rates from European Union shoot up in 2009

The EU announced recall of 19 textile and garment products in April 2009, representing an increase of 375 percent year-on-year, among them 13 products were originally produced in China, accounting for 68.4 percent of total textile and garment products being recalled.

Among the recalled products, 17 products were clothing and manufactured goods for infants and young children, of which 12 products were made in China, accounting for 70.6 percent.

There were 14 reasons for the recall, mainly the danger of neck suffocation, of which 12 products were made in China, accounting for 92.3 percent of Chinese products being recalled.

In addition, the European Union recalled 74 textile and garment products in total from January to April 2009, according to statistics, representing an increase of 270 percent year-on-year. Among them, 52 products were made in China, up 643 percent year-on-year.
