Take diplomatic initiatives for passage of bill – GAN to Govt

Recently two senators from the US had proposed a bill to provide duty free access to apparel exports from 14 countries around the globe like Nepal, Bangladesh, etc, which have been mainly affected by terrorist activities.

The Garment Association of Nepal (GAN has requested the Nepalese government to take diplomatic initiatives to ensure that the bill is passed by the US senate with a majority vote and which will provide an impetus to the RMG sector.

On a recent visit to Nepal, the US Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs, Mr Robert Blake had mentioned of an opposition to the bill from some quarters of the senate, which could impede the smooth passage of the bill.
