In recent years, China's exports of clothing have been bogged down in the predicament of recall cases. Entering in to 2009, along with the spread of global economic crisis, embarrassment and fears of recalls are more disturbing to Chinese enterprises.

Recall rate of China's apparel exports is much higher than other countries. The latest data from the Ministry of Commerce shows that in the first five months of 2009, the European Union announced 92 recalls on textile and garment products, among them 65 recalls were on Chinese products, an increase of 442 percent year-on-year.

The European Union announced 18 recalls on textile and apparel products in May, of which 13 recalls were on Chinese products, accounting for 72 percent of total recalls on textile and garment products.

Among 13 Chinese textile and garment products recalled by the EU, 12 products have risks of harm, 80 percent of which carry the risks of small parts and strings that do not meet requirements, especially decorative ropes, which have danger of suffocation to children.

In fact, Europe, the United States and other countries have already developed a variety of strict regulations to monitor infant and young children's clothing, but some Chinese apparel export enterprises are still not aware of these regulations and make products on their own standards, due to which products are recalled.
