Garment industry entrepreneurs should generate skilled workforce, opined the Jute and Textile Minister Mr. Abdul Latif Siddiquee, while speaking at the inaugural ceremony of a four day exhibition of textile and garments machinery.

Beside purchasing machinery for garment sector from foreign countries, the sector also hires foreign technicians to operate them, he added.

Hence, he asked the garment industrialists to take efforts for creating skilled manpower to operate machines, and assured them that they will receive government's assistance in this regard.

This will help to keep money in the country instead of spending on foreigners, the Minister emphasized.

Bangladesh Textile Mills Association (BTMA) President Mr. Abdul Hai Sarker urged the government to provide regular gas supply to ensure smooth production as the gas crisis has affected textile industry's development, at the time when the industry is about to come over the economic slump, he added.

He further stated that Bangladesh has been recognized as the hub for textile industry, but this image is now depending upon the availability of gas and power.

Around 570 companies from 30 nations are participating in the exhibition that will end on February 5.
