According to Industry Minister, M S Hidayat, the famous fashion brand, Gucci, has produced its garments utilizing Indonesian hand-woven fabrics, which are acknowledged globally.
As the Indonesian fabric is hand-made, it is considered invaluable and this traditional woven cloth is attaining international standards with Gucci's collaboration. However, the domestic market is quite unenthusiastic, regarding this traditional hand-woven fabric.
The minister anticipated development of this traditional fabric at par with Indonesian batik. The number of traditional cloth weavers is continuously falling due to complex traditional processing methods. The number of weavers has shrunk by 45 percent.
Such kind of associations with international brands will act as a boon for the traditional weaving industry, stated Hidayat.
