Global safety norms for children's clothing

The three new national standards of "Safety requirements of rope and drawstring on children's apparel", "Safety requirements of drawstring on children's frock" and " Implementation norm to promote mechanical safety of children's clothing in production and design" will be implemented from August 1.
Among them, "Safety requirements of drawstring on children's frock" regulate safety requirements of drawstring on frock for children under 14 years old. In accordance with divisions of children's clothing, drawstring standards can be divided into hood and neck, waist and hem, while in accordance with children's age; drawstring standards can be divided into the application for young children's clothing and older children's clothing.
"Safety requirements of rope and drawstring on kid's apparel" prescribe safety requirements of rope and drawstring on clothing for children under 14, but do not include rope and drawstring specifications. The standards give clear provisions on rope and drawstring attaching to hood and neck, waist, clothing hem and sleeves.
"Implementation norm to promote mechanical safety of children's clothing in production and design" provides implementation norm of material, design, and production of clothing for children less than 14 years.
The standards pay attention to details of first information exchange, materials and parts procurement, fashion design, as it gives a comprehensive explanation about attention proceedings regarding mechanical safety issues of children's clothing from production process to materials, as well as from clothing inspection to testing.
At present, China's standards on children's wear products include "children's clothing, student wear," "baby clothes", "woven student wear", basic standards include "apparel size for children", method standards include "part measurement on human body and methods for infant clothing" and so on.
The latest promulgated series of safety standards of children's clothing for the first time focus on appearance and mechanical injury of children's clothing in standardization work of clothing and will help in reducing the number of recalls which has reached its zenith in 2010.
