Tastex Knitware and Uniforms, a small knitwear company from Hobart functioning with 15 disabled employees received a major jolt, as it lost the Tasmania Police jumpers contract.
The company was making woollen jumpers for the state's police force for the last 20 years, but this year a New South Wales Company grabbed the contract for preparing the same.
Based on the procurement procedure for companies employing disabled workers, rather than opting for a tender, the police could have entered into direct negotiation with Tastex.
The police department in argument said that, it went by the tender process approved by the government and that it would carry out all other commitments that it has with Tastex for procuring other garments.
