Sri Lanka's Brandix Apparel Group's Chief, Ashroff Omar recently while addressing an international conference stated that, establishment of more and more large scale companies could boost the research and development activities, so that the apparels can provide greater value to their consumers.
A statement released by Brandix revealed that, Omar gave the keynote address at an event which commemorated the completion of The Textile Institute's 100 years in Manchester.
Omar stated that, the apparel producing industry has shattered and it has been looking for cheap labour. This is because, while automobile, footwear and computer are some of the industries which offer extraordinary products at very competitive prices to its customers, the apparel industry offers them the products at higher rates, he said.
He further said that, a majority of the small businesses did not possess the scale required to give out great value. But that, there is still some scope for a handful of five billion dollar companies to grow and transform the business model, he added.
