A rise of 26 percent has been witnessed in Cambodia's garment exports during 2010, which grew from US $2.38 billion in 2009 to $2.99 billion in 2010, the statistics revealed.

The GMAC President Van Sou Ieng said that, Cambodia has been engaging in the business which it initially outsourced to China, owing to the rising pressure for wage rise from the workers in China.

He said that, the garment exports are expected to rise even during the current year, as several global buyers are attracted by the fine quality and price stability that the Cambodian garment industry offers.

Around two billion dollars worth of garments which constituted two-third of the total garments produced in the Kingdom during last year were exported to the US, while over $750 million worth of garments were exported to Europe.

Further, Ministry of Commerce Secretary of State Uk Boung who predicted Cambodia's garment exports to the US to remain steady during the year, said that, a rise may be witnessed in the exports to Japan and other ASEAN countries. This may all come about as the government has inked many fresh agreements with these countries in recent times.

Though, the kingdom's garment export is expected to be on a higher side during the year, but then this would necessitate additional efforts, he added.
