EXPORTA, the export promotion agency of El Salvador has inaugurated a workshop to improve the production quality of the country's textile and apparel industry, so as to enable it to better compete with China.
A study of the textile and apparel industry of the country, undertaken by the agency revealed that, 80 producers lacked in production, brand positioning, design, workforce training and in execution speed.
Due to these reasons, El Salvador is finding it difficult to compete with countries like China, which hold a significant share in global markets, EXPORTA said.
According to EXPORTA, last year the textile industry of the country saw apparel exports going up from $6.7m in 2009 to $8 million.
Further EXPORTA stated that, quality improvement has never been so vital, particularly when manufacturers in China and other Asian countries are already ailing, due to rising labour costs and other issues related to production.
The agency stated that, leading textile firms from the country and the executives are attending the workshop.
