Despite the global pandemic and Italian government’s decision to shut down most of industrial productions, PG Denim has decided to create a capsule collection named ‘Fuck Bacteria’ in close collaboration with Rudolf Group. The collaboration stems from desire to project a new vision for fashion, a modern one that also includes responsible level of protection.

"I decided to create a capsule collection not only thinking about the issues related to the current COVID-19 situation, but thinking about an overall concept that takes care of ourselves, that guards us from all relevant but latent bacteria that infest our daily lives," said PG Denim founder Paolo Gnutti. "The situation we are going through today, we might have seen only in the movies, a pandemic that will, necessarily, change radically our style life. This capsule collection certainly won’t eliminate the virus, but it can guarantee us very high protection from many infectious bacteria that surround us every day.”

This vision kick-started a close collaboration with Rudolf Group, a leading company in the area of chemical auxiliaries for textile and pioneer of breakthrough, conscious innovations. They were the first ones, back in 2003, to make a real commitment to the environment by launching fluorine-free DWR. That happened 15 years before traditional water repellents were banned in the business.

"This is not my first anti-bacterial collection,” said Gnutti, "but definitely in the past the reaction to an issue which is very close to the hearts of the brands and the mass was not such an important matter as today. From now on, however, it will become a fundamental aspect of our lives after COVID-19.”

The new collection’s main focus will be, as always in the PG Denim lines, a product that arouses emotions, originality and uniqueness.

Unlike the latest collections, PG Denim wants to create a new era in the fashion market, a product that follows the fundamentals of sustainability , starting from the creation of fabrics certificated by GOTS and BCI, DTOX and Oeko-Tex, dyeing in Indigo with low water consumption, using chemical products which allow ozone finishing to avoid the use of water.

“With Rudolf Group, and in particular with Alberto De Conti, head of Rudolf Fashion division at Rudolf Hub 1922, we joined forces and tried to find solutions that could be translated into a real sustainable collection that is driven by real science. We feel that the combination of PG Denim’s fashion vision and Rudolf’s distinctive technical leadership we can be both example and reference in the market,” added Gnutti.

The collection will be developed on multiple fronts, using separate and unique technologies supplied by Rudolf.

The first one is a microstructure covered with metallic silver that acts as an extraordinarily effective bacteriostatic. Many bacteria that cause infections and disagreeable odours, cannot adapt to fabrics that have been treated with silver ions. The product is the same one used in clinics and hospitals to prevent infections. This product has been designed for high resistance washing, both for domestic, industrial (over 100 cycles even at high temperatures) and dry cleaning.

Inspired by Mother Nature’s work, the second technology (applied on the fabrics), guarantees high performance, fluorine-free water repellency, does not alter the fabrics ‘touch’ and has an excellent resistance to washing and abrasion. Considering that the protection of the body from bodily fluids has gained new relevance these days, the treated fabrics help repelling what public has learnt to know as ‘droplets’.

“This collaboration stems from the companies’ desire to project out a new vision for fashion, a modern one that also encapsulates an invisible, sophisticated, responsible level of protection; a sort of wearable body guard,” concluded Gnutti.

PG Denim is convinced that the future of the apparel clothing should be targeted on purchases of functional and necessary products, without over-productions which generate waste and stock.
