The international clothing brand Esprit has unveiled its first-ever recycled Autumn/Winter apparel collection with the R Cert verification tag from the Hong Kong based environmental sustainability promoting NGO Redress’.

Designed by the Berlin-based Redress EcoChic Design Award 2013’s winner, Karen Jessen, the 13-piece Recycled Collection by Esprit 2014 is made using the recycled fabric off cuts sourced from the brand’s own manufacturing units.

Available for sale in select Esprit retail stores in Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Netherlands, Switzerland, UK, Hong Kong and Singapore, the range includes eight denim and five knit or jersey styles replete with modern design sensibilities, subtle detailing and feminine lines.

Made from 43 percent recycled cotton fabric, the range’s denim woven looks include a jumpsuit, a dress, a jacket, a coat, a fitted shirt, and a pair of both skinny pants and chino trousers.

The knit heavy line’s jersey tops are crafted from 35 percent recycled cotton derived from the clothier’s own T-shirt manufacturing off cuts and later blended with 65 percent recycled polyester. Featuring boat necks, kimono or batwing sleeves, the pieces have not been re-dyed hence retain the mixed hues of the original off cut blends.

All garments, which have been modeled by the NGO’s CEO and founder Christina Dean, come with the ‘Recycled Collection’ hangtag with a QR code that can be scanned and then linked to the ‘R Cert’ website which enables the buyers to track their recycled textile garment’s journey, right from factory to retail. Also the recycled collection’s customers can view details about the Esprit’s supply chain and verify which factory produced the garment.

The R Cert verifies that a brand has recycled its own pre-consumer textile waste into their new recycled textile clothing using a minimum of 20 percent recycled fibres therefore contributed towards the reduction of textile waste, water and power consumption and carbon emission.

Founded in 1968, Esprit specializes in high-quality clothing for women, men and kids. The company’s apparels are sold in over 40 countries worldwide through a network of nearly 900 self-operated retail stores and some 8,100 wholesale points of sales including franchise partners, and sales space in department stores.
