Orissa gets new textile training centre

Textile Exports are expected to grow 22% and would reach US $ 55 billion by the year 2012. The government of India is gearing up for the same. The govt. of India is setting up integrated Textile Parks & Apparel Parks.

ATDC runs 13 programmes ranging from 1 year to 3 months duration. The ATDC not only will provide training but will also render multifarious services to the state in the form of : -
• Employment generation to youth
• Women empowerment
• Entrepreneurship development
• Project consultancy for setting up of apparel units
• Assistance in setting up of Apparel Parks
• Converting of handloom products into marketable export products etc.

Apart from this, the centre can also cater to the rural people living below poverty line particularly belonging to SC/ST/OBC/Minorities, Physically Handicapped and women and is making all its efforts to work in close collaboration with respective departments in the state to improve the socio-economic conditions and to raise their standards from below poverty line. The AEPC has also set up two foundations, namely, “AEPC Rural Development Foundation” and “AEPC Foundation for Labour Foundation”. Both of them will also start functioning in the State of Orissa with the objectives of : - i) To organize, establish and implement programmes and projects in the area of rural development. ii) To take all necessary steps for creating employment opportunities for the rural people and in the rural areas especially in the apparel industry. iii) To work for improving all socio-economic indicators of rural people in the country, especially near the garment manufacturing hubs. iv) To work for the welfare of the personnel employed in the apparel industry and trade and their families, especially in the field of health, general economic upliftment and standard of living. v) To organize, establish and implement programmes and projects for the manpower development, skill up-gradation, better health management etc. Indeed several activities have already been initiated under the above two foundations as : • Organized health check up camps in apparel industries for 350 workers, and majority of them were found having refractive error. Cases of cancer of the breast, cancer of the thyroid and TB were referred for proper diagnosis / treatment. • In Kanchipuram district of Chennai, we are going to adopt one village in collaboration with District Collector, Kanchipuram for revival of traditional crafts focused on Sari weavers who are on the verge of closing down their inherited craft. • A research study on Impact and Incidence of HIV / AIDS in apparel industry will be undertaken by AEPC Rural Development Foundation in the districts of Tirupur, Chennai and Delhi in collaboration with international NGO. AEPC will ensure that these societies will undertake several initiatives in the rural development and labour welfare areas.
