CII CEOs opinion Poll on Union Budget announcement

CII CEOs opinion Poll revealed that the Union Budget 2008-09 is a people oriented and focused on inclusive and sustainable growth.

This was revealed by 94 per cent of the CEOs surveyed who opined that the Budget announcement was people oriented. Further, 76% of the CEOs opined that the budget announcements were focussed on inclusive and sustainable growth.

Further, 72.5% of the CEOs polled opined that the budget was growth oriented, but only 42% of the CEOs polled opined that the budget announcements were reform oriented.

While the budget announcements would provide more purchasing power in the hands of the people for stimulate demand, the CEOs opined that there could have been further reform announcements in the area of financial sector, agriculture and infrastructure.

The Union Budget announcements have provided support to the rural economy, this was revealed by 63% of the CEOs who responded to the opinion poll and another 32% of the CEOs feel that the budget announcements somewhat provide support to the rural economy.

Of the CEOs polled, 50% of them revealed their opinion that the Budget announcements have measures that would help enhance the competitiveness of Indian Industry.

Casting their opinion on the tax burden, 87% of the CEOs have revealed that the budget proposals would not increase the overall tax burden on the industry and economy.

On the overall direction, 80 per cent of the CEOs opined that thebudget announcements would help translate India's need for transiting from a labour-arbitrage to knowledge-arbitrage economy.
