Ireland-based apparel retail chain A|wear has been placed into receivership, putting several jobs at risk.

Ken Fennell of Kavanagh Fennell has been appointed as the receiver to the fashion chain that had been in the examinership process since October 8 this year.

A|wear has 31 retail locations in Ireland and 9 concession stores in the UK.  It currently employs 358 staff, of whom 177 are full-time employees.

Kavanagh Fennell will assess the trading feasibility of some of the A|wear stores over the next few days, while it tries to find a suitable buyer for the A|wear business.

However, some of the retail stores might have to be closed, according to the receiver.

In recent years, A|wear has struggled with high rents, recessionary trading conditions and supply issues.
