Dillard's, Inc. announced the election of former U.S. Congressman J.C. Watts, Jr. to its board of directors. Mr. Watts' election follows the resignation of James A. Haslam, III who resigned effective immediately to focus on other responsibilities.
Dillard's Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer, William Dillard, II, stated, “We thank Jimmy for his service to Dillard's and our shareholders. His insight and contributions have benefited us greatly and we wish him well.” Mr. Dillard added, “We are pleased to welcome J.C. back to the board. J.C. was an excellent board member during his prior term with Dillard's. We look forward to his input, which we know from experience will be invaluable as we move the Company forward.”
Congressman Watts, 51, brings a nationally recognized record of distinctive leadership to Dillard's board. He represented the State of Oklahoma's 4th District in the U.S. House of Representatives for eight years beginning in 1994. In 1998, Congressman Watts was elected chairman of the House Republican Conference, the fourth highest position in the majority party in the U.S. House of Representatives. He was unanimously reelected to the position two years later. His congressional service is further marked by many key committee appointments which include the Armed Services Committee, the House Select Committee on Homeland Security, the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee and the House Banking Committee.
Congressman Watts currently serves as chairman of the J.C. Watts Companies, a multi-industry holding company headquartered in Washington, DC, with operations in Texas and Oklahoma. Mr. Watts provides advisory services to several major companies, including John Deere and NASCAR and also serves on the board of directors of Burlington Northern Santa Fe.
