Kewal Kiran Clothing Limited (KKCL) is on a retail expansion boom, and has opened its 48th signature K-LOUNGE store in Opera House, Mumbai. The company will shortly launch its 49th and 50th stores in Ahmadabad and Delhi.
“We see retail as the biggest growth driver for us ahead. Around 30 million square feet is available in 2005 for the organized retail sector, and in this around 60-70% will be taken by true lifestyle products alone,” said Mr Kewalchand Jain, CMD, Kewal Kiran Clothing Limited.
The company currently enjoys a total retail space of 60,000 sq ft, and plans to expand this to 2,25,000 sq ft by end-2008, and 85,000 sq ft by end-2007, consisting of small, mid and large format stores – setting a new landmark in the branded garments retail segment.
The company owns four apparel brands, Killer, Lawman, Integriti and Easies. These four brands are exclusively available at K-LOUNGE. The K-LOUNGE concept came up in September 2004, a unique concept in terms of putting up 4 brands of the same company under a single roof.
During the first half of this financial year, highest growth among the brands was reported for Lawman, followed by Integriti, Killer and Easies. KKCL has scheduled a launch of women's wear under its 'Killer' brand this December, and are also expanding the range of formal garments under its 'Easies' brand.
Recently, Mr. Kewalchand P Jain, Chairman and Managing Director was awarded 'Brand Entrepreneur of the Year' 2006 by the Clothing manufacturers Association of India (CMAI), a apex body of the Garment Manufacturers in India.
During the last quarter, KKCL commenced commercial production on the expansion of 30,000 square feet at its Daman plant. The company also purchased 53,000 square feet of land, with built-up area of 40,000 square feet, for a new stitching facility, that will help it achieve the target manufacturing capacity of 4 million garments by 2008.
