Messe Frankfurt and the international École Superieure des Arts et Techniques de la Mode (Esmod) have signed a cooperation agreement in Paris with the common aim of promoting sustainability in the fashion industry. "We are very proud that Esmod is collaborating with Messe Frankfurt. It is a great honour and underscores the excellent development of our sustainable segment," explains Detlef Braun, Member of the Messe Frankfurt Executive Board.

Representatives of the fashion school value the expertise in textiles and event organisation of Germany's highest grossing trade fair company as well as its extensive network: "In order to offer our students a challenging curriculum, it is important for us to collaborate with specialists that have a good understanding of our field. In Messe Frankfurt, we have found a strong partner with a global network in the area of sustainable textiles.

Messe Frankfurt enjoys tremendous credibility in the textile industry and, with its Ethical Fashion Show, organises the only trade fair for sustainable fashion in Paris," comments Christine Walter-Bonini, General Manager at Esmod International. With over 30 international textile trade fairs, Messe Frankfurt is the world's leading organiser of textile events.

Joint focus on sustainability
The collaboration between Esmod and Messe Frankfurt is centred on the issue of sustainability, a topic which is cementing itself as part of the fashion landscape, not only for designers, producers and users, but also within Messe Frankfurt's event portfolio. Since 2007, Messe Frankfurt and its textile fairs have been striving to promote textiles produced in an ecologically and socially responsible way.

With numerous seminars, presentations, workshops and publications, the company focuses on green issues. With the Ethical Fashion Show in Paris and the GREENshowroom in Berlin, Messe Frankfurt already has two events in its portfolio that are dedicated to sustainable fashion. From 18 to 20 January 2012, the Ethical Fashion Show will be making its debut in Berlin as part of the Berlin Fashion Week, parallel to the GREENshowroom.

In the months to come, both partners will flesh out the subjects of sustainability and eco-fashion for the Paris-based fashion school and gradually integrate them in the curricula. "We have developed some very promising modern ideas and are looking forward to a series of exciting projects.

Given the strengths and high quality standards of our partner and ourselves, we can expect to see trail-blazing things come to life," says Olaf Schmidt, Vice-President Textiles & Textile Technologies at Messe Frankfurt.

There has also been an agreement to hold an international Eco-Fashion design award and to create a trend show, the Esmod / Ethical Fashion Show. Also in the pipeline are plans for presentations and special shows, joint PR activities, and the creation and expansion of a joint international network.
