Reduce freight subsidy on leather garments - PLGMEA

Feb '08
More than a month has passed but the effect of Benazir Bhutto's assassination can be felt all over Pakistan. The Pakistan Leather Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association (PLGMEA) has also got highly affected due to this. As a result it has requested the Government for special freight subsidy on exports of leather garments.

Mr Hassan Ali Bhatti, Chairman Sialkot PLGMEA (North Zone), while attending a meeting on February 3, said that the shipments of the leather garments exports were delayed across the country after December 27, 2007. As the sea shipments are being sent by air, it is adding to the cost of freight to a large extent.

Further adding to the owes of Leather garment exporters, Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), has recently reduced the duty drawback rates on exports of leather garments with PLGMEA consent. This created panic among exporters.

PLGMEA which was formed to protect, promote and develop the Pakistan Leather Garment Industry, expressed grave concern over the unjustified reduction of duty drawback rates on exports of leather garments.
