Biggest job reduction in March, AMTAC

"While we appreciate the discussion associated with the problems pertaining to North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) by some of the presidential candidates, China is the country responsible for approximately 50 percent of the $499 billion 2007 U.S. trade deficit in manufactured goods. Consequently, AMTAC believes it also is crucial to address predatory trade practices by all countries, but especially those concerning China," Tantillo stated.

"While presidential candidates have acknowledged, and in some cases even decried the loss of U.S. manufacturing jobs, very little substance has been put forth on what specific steps should be taken to stabilize and revitalize manufacturing in the United States.

America's companies and workers deserve detailed plans to combat the loss of U.S. manufacturing jobs from our presidential candidates. One or two paragraphs in a speech or a press statement simply is an unacceptable response to a policy challenge that must be resolved if America is to have a prosperous future," Tantillo emphasized.
