Usak University of Turkey is all set to present a project in front of State Planning Organization (DPT), which if sanctioned, will give the nation its first ever leather research lab facility, that will be constructed in the campus area.

The Leather Works and Research Center of the university has labeled the project 'Research Infrastructure Support Project'. The aim behind establishing the lab is to serve businesspeople of the leather sector, which are in various Turkish cities of Istanbul, Izmir and Bursa. The research lab will collaborate with international centers on several projects to constantly update itself.

The leather research center would also provide necessary information on latest technology, products, national and international market trends, production and sales for those who are interested in investing in the leather sector.

The project will require an investment of nearly YTL 7 million. It has so far received support from the Usak Mixed Organized Industrial Region, the Usak Trade and Industry Chamber and the Usak Leather Industrialists Association.

Experts suggest that, if the lab gets accredited then it will take the national leather sector on a new high as the quality of the product will surely improve with constant research and development.
