According to a latest report released by PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), China and India are expected to be the top sourcing hubs for the retail sector, though concerns over rising cost, environmental issues, currency risks and quality are major areas of concern in the future for most of the respondents.

Mexico, Italy, Bangladesh, Malaysia, Chile and Canada were the other favoured top sourcing destinations for a majority of the companies.

83 percent of the companies' surveyed have named China as the number one destination for sourcing, followed by India with 58 percent. Companies from Australia, France, Germany, India, China, Canada, UK and USA were surveyed in the study.

The in-depth survey covers nearly 59 retail and consumer goods companies across the globe. Textiles and clothing compromised 7 percent of the total enterprises in the study.

The reports states “Our feeling is that China will continue to be the leader in terms of sourcing activities for many years to come, however, concern over rising costs, carbon footprint and other issues may cause companies to step up purchases in other countries over time,"

It goes on to add "Global sourcing is experiencing robust growth with increased globalisation. While cost is still the key driver of global sourcing activities, mature companies are shifting focus to gain greater efficiency in competitive market, with focus on better quality products and collaborative supplier relationships.”
