'Ran's Night' wins Kids Design Grind Prize

The final review for the Second Kids Design Award, which was held on August 4, and the winner of the Kids Design Grand Prize was decided.

At the same time, the winners of the Gold Prizes and the First Prizes in individual categories were selected from among the award winners. The results are hereby announced.

1. Winners
Kids Design Grind Prize (Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry's Award)
- Wearable Thermometer “Ran's Night,” QOL Corporation

Gold Prizes (Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry's Awards)
• Safety Design Prize (outstanding design of a safe environment)
- Lime desiccant, Sakamoto Sekkai Kogyosho

• Joint Creation Design Prize (outstanding design created through close communication between the producer and the user)
- Pinocchio Project, Mitsui Fudosan Residential Co., Ltd.

• Kansei Value Design Prize (outstanding design of an environment that fosters children's sensitivity, or kansei)
- Omoshiro Bijutsu-cho (fun art book), Suntory Limited

• Active Design Prize (design that excels in encouraging interactions between children and their parents)
- Olympus µ850SW, Olympus Corporation

• Social Education Design Prize (design that excels in helping children harmonize with society)
- Gakken Hotaru Campaign, Gakken Co., Ltd.

• Creative Education Design Prize (design that excels in fostering the development of children's creativity)
- Waiwai Studio, Kids Plaza Osaka, Osaka City Education Promotion Bureau and Total Media Development Institute Co., Ltd.

2. Outline of the Kids Design Award
The Kids Design Award is an award program to recognize designs (“kids designs”) that contribute to creating a living environment in which parents can comfortably raise their children with a sense of security and safety and in which children grow up in good health. The program started in 2007 under the auspices of the Kids Design Association, a specified nonprofit corporation.

Results of the Second Kids Design Award
In its second year, the award program received 247 entries in total, in the four categories of Product Design, Construction and Space Design, Communication Design and Research. Of these entries, 149 won Kids Design Awards.

Major prize winners
• Kids Design Grand Prize (METI Minister Award): 1 winner
• Gold Prize (METI Minister Award): 6 winners
• First Prize in each category (Kids Design Association Chair's Award): 4 winners
• Head Juror's Special Prize: 3 winners
• Chair's Special Award (Jury's Encouragement Prize): 3 winners

The award ceremony for the above major prize winners will be held as follows:

Venue: TEPIA Plaza (The Machine Industry Memorial Foundation's building)
