Wenzhou City is a barometer of the well being of China's private sector economy. Not long ago, the Economic and Trade Commission of Wenzhou City circulated a questionnaire among major private industries in the city, including electrical, footwear, clothing, valve, auto distribution, chemical, etc.
This poll was conducted in the first week of February. From among nearly 900 enterprises, 80 percent of them are enterprises with an annual output value of more than five million Yuan and 74.5 percent of them have either expanded production scale or have all production lines running at fully operational levels in 2009.
The survey also showed that nearly 90 percent of the enterprises find that it is relevantly easy to recruit new workers, while 97.9 percent of the enterprises increased salaries of their workers. The best feedback to be received is that 55.7 percent of them reportedly have received same volumes of domestic or export orders.
Some of the enterprises have even received 10 percent increase in volumes of orders for the first half this year compared with the same time last year. In January, Wenzhou city's exports to the EU and US reached US $330 million and $115 million, up 5.68 percent and 17.62 percent year-on-year respectively.
