The fifth edition of Capital Fashion Week, held September 17-20, at the Ulysses Guimarães Convention Center in Brasília, is comprised of 37 fashion shows that shows collections for the high summer of 2009.

Besides the fashion shows, the event also adds a new space with 40 stands for conducting business between exhibiters and domestic and international buyers: Capital Fashion Business. ABIT, through Texbrasil, a Program developed in partnership with Apex-Brasil, supports Capital Fashion Week, bringing international journalists and buyers.

The opening of the event went to Brasília jewel designer, Carla Amorim. Then it was time for the Capital Fashion Week stylists. Camila Prado chose the navy team to develop the collection.

Without leaving the theme's classic colors aside (blue, white and red), she also played with green, black and yellow. The pieces underscore femininity and bring nautical icons like anchors and little boats in the prints.

Camila's pin-ups wear short jackets, shorts, overalls and dresses. Self-taught stylist Romildo Nascimento sought inspiration in French plastic artist Marianne Peretti to create looks for him and her.

Based on the famous stained glass works the artist developed in the federal capital, like the Cathedral of Brasília, Romildo created colors and shapes.

Satiny serge, tulle and chevron gave life to loose dresses and in layers for her and tailored pieces for him, where the silhouette is well-defined in pants and shirts.

Closing the first day of stylists at CFW, the duo Priscila Bosquê and Romilda Gomes, of the Se essa roupa fosse minha brand, presented the theme "old-fashioned romance", based on romanticism of the 19th Century.

Bows, pleats and applications are used in the pieces. Baby blue, white and pink are part of the color chart and were used in dresses, pants, shorts, among others.

Then the Brasília brand, Cláudia Galdina, showed options for women of several ages and styles, from the most laid-back (long, floral print dress) to the traditional skirt and blazer combination.

Ruffles, lace and embroidery are also in the pieces. Black and blue are among the brand's colors. The next fashion show belonged to jewel designer Miranda Castro in partnership with stylist Fause Haten.

One of the highlights of the first day of fashion shows at CFW was the participation of students in the Fashion Design Course at the Institute of Higher Learning of Brasília – IESB. The works were previously selected by professors in an internal contest at the institution.

Anna Paula Osório created high-summer pieces exclusively for men. Pants, bermudas, shirts and light and comfortable tunics translated the Mediterranean influence in the collection.

"Mary & John" was the theme chosen by the duo João Santoro and Maria Paula de Azevedo. They brought options for him and her with touches of urbanity and versatility.
