17th International auction of rough diamonds organized by ALROSA

The 17th International auction of special size rough diamonds organized by ALROSA in conjunction with the Diamond Chamber of Russia began its work on 21 August 2006.
56 Russian and foreign companies from Israel, Belgium, India, China, Japan, USA, specialized in manufacturing large-sized goods and all having high business reputation, participated in it as bidders.
The lots were available for preview on the premises of the Diamond Chamber of Russia during a month.
131 boxes (composed of 893 diamonds) with an aggregate weight of over 16 thousand carats were offered for sale. Those included 29 exceptionally large rough diamonds, each weighing over 50 carats. The largest of the diamonds on sale weighed 283.94 carats.
The results were made public on September 22, 2006. 126 boxes have been sold bringing altogether the total of about USD 23 million.
The results will be posted on the official site of ALROSA at www.alrosa.ru.The next auction will open on September 25, 2006. The results will be announced on October 20, 2006.
