Although Marie Antoinette died in 1793, her pearls have been passed on as a legacy and today they are an intrinsic part of a neck piece that is assessed to have a value of nearly 400,000 pounds. Christie's International is to display and auction in London on December 12.
According to the information gathered, the pearls belonged to the queen of France and were handed over to Lady Sutherland (wife of the George Leveson-the then British Ambassador) for guardianship.
The necklace made from 33 of Marie Antoinette's pearls, includes 21 gray drop pearls that are supported by a diamond collar, which is set with 12 button-shaped, gold-mounted pearls.
