Malta Fashion Week witnesses eclectic clothing designs

The just wrapped up edition of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Malta (MBFWM) was a celebration of eclectic clothing designs from several Maltese and international fashion talents.

Local fashion brand Gagliardi celebrated the 50th year anniversary of its owner Bortex (Malta’s most famous formal menswear tailoring company) through two catwalk parades—Spring/Summer 2014 and Autumn/Winter 2014.

Inspired from the southern Italy’s Amalfi Coast, the first S/S collection showed lightweight crisp silhouettes crafted from natural fabrics like wool, cotton and linen. Based on a palette of navy, white, sky and midnight blue, lemon yellow, pink, lilac, purple, burnt orange and grey, the range included sharply tailored business suits and jackets, pants, shirts, shorts, polo shirts and swimwear.

The men’s label’s A/W range was inspired from Tuscany’s popular wild boar hunting sport. Replete with paisley prints, hand scribbled patterns, and trimming and quilting details, the pieces were based in warm autumnal hues of mustard, rusty orange, forest green, wintery grey, and icy and smoky blue. The featured ensembles were jackets, scarves, waistcoats, business and casual suits and jumpers.

The event scheduled a special bridal fashion show, staged by the French bridal wear and accessories provider Wedding Bells, Spanish label Pronovias and Sicilian-born designer Loredana Roccasalva, on the fifth day.

Wedding Bells chose to showcase some exquisitely embroidered and embellished, silk and lace made princess cut and mermaid style gowns, whereas Pronovias, which is celebrating its 50th year in the industry, opted to present some gorgeous delicately made pieces with interesting sheer necklines and fit-and-flare silhouettes.

Designer Loredana Roccasalava showcased an exclusive collection of bridal and cocktail wears. Accentuated with multiple layers and draping, the range included veiled wedding gowns in pristine white and grey as well as short evening dresses in black and lavender shades.
