Korto Momolu will showcase her newest collection at Africa Fashion Week New York Thursday, July 14th. AFWNY is set to take place July 14th, 15th, and 16th in New York City's Financial District in the Broad Street Ballroom.

Korto Momolu will be the opening show on the first day of AFWNY. Momolu's collection highlights colors and designs that reflect her homeland back in Liberia, which is a signature of her work.

In her recent interview with CNN's African Voices, Momolu exclaimed, “I've always loved to infuse my African Heritage in there—but not in a way where it's like an in your face, traditional African outfit”.

AFWNY includes runway shows hosting 21+ designers from various countries in Africa and those of the African Diaspora, exhibitions and industry networking events. AFWNY is strictly invitation only. Opening designer Korto Momolu and designers like Washington Roberts, Saint Wobil, AAMAA Couture, Bill Witherspoon and others will showcase. Sponsors include PopDrum, Mo-Saique, AveYou, Makari de Suisse, John Ashford, and Avaloni Studios. AFWNY is an invite only event.

Korto Momolu was born in Liberia, West Africa but left the country in 1990 due to a civil war. She settled in Canada where she pursued fashion design at the L'Academies des Couturiers Design Institute in Ottawa, Ontario. After graduation, Momolu moved to Arkansas and began producing woman's wear and accessories. After working as an independent fashion designer and continuing her education at the Parsons School of Design, Korto followed her dreams and won a place on the fifth season of Bravo's hit show Project Runway and ended the season as 1st runner up.
