Camilo Alvarez wins IAF Designer Award 2011

The winner of the 2011 IAF Designer Awards Fashion Show is the Colombian designer Camilo Alvarez. The show was held during the 27th IAF World Apparel Convention, organized together with the 35th Congress of CANAIVE (the Mexican Apparel Industry Association). The jury judged that his collection was overall best, saying that “this brand is ready to be launched. It is a great combination of creativity and commercialism”.
The jury consisted of the French fashion designer Naco Paris, Angela Peers (Manchester Metropolitan University) and the Mexican clothing manufacturer Jean Francois Levy (Indistrias Cavallier). The award for the most commercial design went to Gaurav Jai Gupta from India ,Emily Nasr and Keshia Abeysekera from Australia won the award for “best way of working with fabric”.
The award winner Camilo Alvarez lives and designs in Medellin, Colombia. His objective is to make a bond between communication and fashion. For him, being a designer in a city where fashion is still developing is never a disadvantage, but a characteristic and a positive condition.
The objective of the IAF International Designer Award is to invite and encourage prominent designers to participate in this prestigious contest. By strengthening the exchange among IAF member associations, international fashion design is promoted among the most influential decision-makers in the apparel industry.
The International Apparel Federation (IAF) is a global association, open to entrepreneurs and executives from the apparel chain worldwide. It is a worldwide knowledge network that collects and disseminates information, statistical, benchmarking and otherwise, on developments in apparel design, manufacturing, distribution, sourcing, trade and technology.
