A 'Bright Spark' fringe fashion show will be introduced this year at the Colombo Fashion Week (CFW 2012) to be held from February 24 to 26 in the Sri Lankan capital.

After the successful launch of the 'Gen-Next' Award at HSBC CFW 2011, the fringe fashion show is being introduced this year as a part of CFW's new designer development programme.

The Gen-Next award was introduced last year to fill the necessity of a formal system to unearth potential designers from various fashion schools in Sri Lanka, disclosed Ajai Singh, President of CFW.

The CFW has always focused on assisting upcoming designers to come in the limelight. The 'Bright Spark' show will showcase promising young talent from various fashions schools in Sri Lanka and provide them a platform, from where they can graduate to the main CFW, he added.

Young designers from Lanka Institute of Fashion Technology (LIFT), University of Moratuwa and Academy of Design (AOD) will showcase their collections at the 'Bright Spark' show.

The Gen-Next award is given to a promising young designer, who is selected by a panel of local and international fashion designers. Last year, the award was won by Dimuthu Shabandu, who subsequently got the opportunity to display his creations at IPL fashion shows in Mumbai, Bangalore and Hyderabad.
