DHL's final call for emerging Australian fashion designers

Time is running out for fashion designers to enter the 2012 DHL Express Fashion Export Scholarship, which provides a great opportunity for up-and-coming Australian labels to launch themselves onto the world stage.

The scholarship identifies emerging fashion talent and assists them to achieve global business growth. It is open to all Australian fashion designers and labels who have been exporting for less than four years.

The winner will receive a tailored export mentoring program and $10,000 worth of international freight from DHL Express.

The scholarship catapulted past winners, women's wear designers Bec & Bridge and swimwear label We Are Handsome, into the international spotlight, helping them to expand abroad and achieve international success.

Judges for this year's DHL Express Fashion Export Scholarship include Madeleine Allman, Head of my-wardrobe.com in Asia Pacific and Nathanial Petersen, DHL Express Global Multi-National Customer Manager.

Madeleine said the DHL Express Fashion Export Scholarship is an exciting initiative to help new designers, as it can be daunting taking your label global.

“I'm really excited to see what will get put forward from this year's entrants. We're looking for those designs that will have appeal in markets around the globe. We have some fabulous local talent and it's great to have the chance to give them the inside track to international success.

“As a senior buyer and fashion marketeer, I know how hard it can be to crack the international market, so to have access to export mentoring and advice is priceless,” said Allman.

Gary Edstein, senior vice president of DHL Express Oceania, said the company is proud to help budding fashion designers build their business beyond Australia.

“We really enjoy helping all emerging businesses to export to the rest of the world. As well as providing a first class logistics service, we also support our customers by providing advice on aspects like customs, international taxes and legislations, as well as how to export through online retailing.

“Previous winners of the scholarship have gone on to grow their business globally and we're excited to help the next upcoming Australian designer to take their place on the global stage,” said Edstein.
