Azzedine Alaïa, the Tunisian-born Paris-based fashion designer primarily known for his sumptuously feminine haute couture creations, has finally forayed into menswear.

The 73-year-old veteran has recently designed costumes for the male and female characters of the famous comic opera ‘The Marriage of Figaro’.

Staged at the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles, the four-act-composition featured the male performers in simple trousers and shapeless white suits, designed by Alaia.

The stage comedy’s women characters were seen in the couturier’s signature skater skirts and sleek leather and knitted dresses.

Trained under the likes of Christian Dior, Guy Laroche and Thierry Mugler, Alaia had previously created costumes for the French ballet ‘A Thousand and One Nights’ by Angelin Preljocaj.

‘The Marriage of Figaro’ was composed by the prolific and influential composer of the classical era, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, in the year 1786.
