Inspired from the late Portuguese-born Brazilian samba singer Carmen Miranda, the line’s crepe, leather, suede and lame made pieces were based in shades of black, off-white, nude, fuchsia and blue. Decorated with sequins, the ensembles included tube dresses, knee-length pencil skirts, high-waist slim pants, cropped sweaters and animal print coats.

After missing the last two editions of SPFW, the designer Gloria Coelho came back on the penultimate day of the Brazilian event with her very urban winter-2014 collection. Based on a palette of black, gray, white and dark blue, the chic pieces were enhanced with geometric patterns. The line featured short dresses teamed with black leggings, knitted pullovers and textured leather jackets.

Ronaldo Fraga drew inspiration from the cangaceiras or female bandits of the north-eastern hinterlands of Brazil for his latest catwalk range. Made from materials like silk, linen, cotton boucle, satin organza, the ensembles were accentuated with crochet and jacquard motifs. The collection showcased column skirts, shirts, blouses and short square-cut pants in earthy hues of sunshine yellow, green and blue cactus.

Lino Villaventura featured a very theatrical gothic style line. Designed in straight, snug and longer silhouettes, the silk and tulle made pieces were enhanced with embroidery and crystal embellishments. The range included transparent party dresses and voluminous skirts in violet, plum, red and orange mixed with a dash of metallic shades like copper, gold, bronze and silver.
