Style mingled fitness wear turns fashion frontrunner

‘Unpredictable’ is the word that best defines fashion adaptations. No one would have ever thought that active or fitness wear, which once remained confined to the back of the closets, could move to be a fashion frontrunner.

Identifying the importance of fitness in life and increasing liking of people for these clothes due to the comfort element that fitness wear offer over other fashion wear, fashion designers in the world have now started making efforts to fuse in fashion elements in these outfits to allow people to wear these clothes even outside gyms or during workouts.

Be it yoga pants, neon sports bras or long athletic socks they are all in fashion today and are marking their increasing presence on ramps besides gyms.

According to latest data, during the year that ended in August 2013, spending on workout clothing in the US jumped 7 percent year-on-year to US$ 31.6 billion, which is significantly higher than the 1 percent year-on-year rise in spending for regular clothing which totalled to around US$ 169.2 billion during the same period.

Several fashion biggies now have fashion mingled lines of active wear in their portfolio. Fashion designers like Stella McCartney, Alexander Wang and Calvin Klein have unveiled lines including fashion apparel like leggings, zip-front hoodies and long john sweatpants in their latest collections.

Other leading fashion retailers like Gap, Victoria’s Secret, Macy’s and Forever 21 also have their fitness clothing lines.

Fashion meets function - Porsche Design Sport's new range of designer sportswear for women is the latest effort by sportswear firm Adidas to fuse fashion and fitness. Porsche Design Sport has a full range of clothing for women, all designed to enable maximum performance in elegant style and comfort.

Meanwhile, in an effort to answer as to why fitness wear was missing from fashion runways, US based Turn It On has recently unveiled a line of fashionable fitness wear. The line includes tops, pants, skirts, jackets, and accessories.
