Gucci new line emphasizes volume, shape & physicality

For Prefall 2014, the Gucci woman is upfront and on the go with her luxuriously bare “Gucci essentials.”

Crisp and concise, the collection has an unembellished style that places emphasis on volume, shape, and physicality. The silhouette is sleek and features solid lines with tactile sensibility.

Silhouette

Precise tailored lines provide a clean, masculine undertone. Black leather inserts define the collection’s shapes and edges. Lengths are kept short for low-waisted straight pants or the minimal mini-dress with geometric precision.

Urban outerwear, including double-breasted coats and cabans, features roomy proportions with buttons as the only details. Above-the-knee skirts with pleats to provide volume.

Layered effects with overlapping constructions or shirts beneath sweaters and jackets, worn with a closed collar or tied like a scarf. Long lines only for flare pants or the t-shirt dress. The Gucci trench, the Gucci biker, and fur jackets punctuate the collection.

Colors and Materials

The sharp silhouette calls for saturated, bright hues that alternate with contrasting graphics. Fuchsia, mandarin orange, ruby, brick red, bumblebee yellow, royal blue, sky. Paired with tones of camel, tobacco, navy, black, and white. Brush strokes accentuate playful animalier patterns that appear printed on silk and canvas or woven in the case of mohair knits and coats.

A fur jacket mimics zebra stripes with alternating rows of goat hair and mongolian fur. Bound or laser cut, leather is an ever more timeless essential as seen with nappa shirts, the plongé leather biker, coat, or the suede trench.

Shearling characterizes the double-breasted caban as well as a soft version of the biker. Striped knits in cashmere, angora and wool. The luxurious allure of the camel coat. Three-dimensional chain embroidery characterizes the evening mood, which maintains a cool composure thanks to silk tunic dresses.

Accessories

Solid structure. A glossy, textured surface on handbags in the House’s Diamante leather. Luxuriously minimal, the shoulder bag, tote, and clutch all echo the pureness of the collection.

Shoes alternate between the classic horsebit loafer in leather, the suede platform sandal, and the new square-toe leather bootie with a chunky heel. A strong angular shape for black sunglasses with a top frame and narrow rectangular lenses. Leather cuffs with signature lock hardware to wear on the wrist. A black hat in deerskin accents this season’s bold edge.
