Asics launches independent operations in India

Asics India, the Indian subsidiary of Japanese sportswear specialist Asics, has now become a full-fledged sales company in the country.

The firm, which till now was offering only marketing support and promotional activities for local sales agents, has recently launched independent operations with the aim to strengthen its foothold in the south Asian nation.

To celebrate the launch, a catwalk parade was hosted in Delhi which showcased eight models, walking down the ramp, wearing the brand’s latest sportswear pieces which will be exclusively available for Indian customers.

Speaking on the occasion, Motoi Oyama, president and chief executive officer, and representative director, Asics Corporation, said in a press statement, “I am delighted to be present here for the launch of Asics India. The Indian market is a key market in Asics global growth strategy and we are hopeful that this launch will help us strengthen our position.”

The Indian division’s director, Rajat Khurana, said, “We are extremely glad to enter in the Indian market as we believe, the country promises to be an exciting market for Asics. World over Asics is known for its sports products. Our product range is equipped with advanced technologies which helps enhance sporting performances and we are confident that the products would do well in the Indian market.”

The Asics Fashion Show was attended by leading sports personalities and foreign dignitaries including cricketer Javagal Srinath and Kikuta, Charge d' Affaires ad interim, Embassy of Japan. (PB)
