Suman Nathwani's sleepwear gets recognition
29
Dec '06
Kolkata based Suman Nathvani is India's first undergarment and sleepwear designer who passed the gateway of Lakme Fashion Week to participate in the event.

Though she hails from a traditional Marwari family, Suman's husband has supported all the way in persuing the interest line she has.

She is a preliminary member of Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI), which provides platform for the new designers.

Though the lingerie business has entered the Indian market, it will take a long time to grow up as it is still very conservative.

She designs undergarment and sleepwear under the label of La Lingerie which has branches in three cities, Kolkata, Delhi and Guwahati and the fourth store will be opening in Noida next month. She has designed a line of beachwear, which will be launched soon.

Suman is probably the only designer in the country who designs sleepwear and undergarments. Indian designers are eager to get into home furnishings, accessories and perfumes.

But her entry in the Lakme Fashion Week has provided her platform of recognition and an international status of lingerie designer.
