Imports of cosmetic & industrial concentrates soar

In the period January - April 2008, import of cosmetic concentrates surged by 35 percent while industrial imports rose by around 45 percent over 2007.
Launch of new cosmetic and industrial products have indirectly increased the demand for the concentrates. Imports are generally made from France and Switzerland in the ratio of 50 and 35 percent respectively. The remaining small quantity is obtained from Germany.
Import of cosmetic concentrates went over 25 percent in 2007 while those for industrial purpose stood at around 35 percent as market demand for the compound increased substantially.
Wholesalers in Pakistan affirmed that the use of perfume concentrates in the production of body lotion, sprays, mists and a host of other cosmetic products is increasing every day.
Producers of traditional 'ittar' also purchase these concentrates for use in the manufacture of locally popular products.
