Mr Bergren (Bud) to continue to lead Bon-Ton Store

The Bon-Ton Stores Inc announced its Board of Directors unanimously asked Byron L. (Bud) Bergren to continue in his role as president and chief executive officer. Mr. Bergren's contract stipulates he would continue to serve as president and chief executive officer through January 31, 2009 and would serve in an important role to be determined by the Board of Directors from February 1, 2009 through February 5, 2010.

Tim Grumbacher, Executive Chairman of the Board of Directors, commented, "Our board has been very pleased with Bud's vision, leadership and execution since he joined Bon-Ton five years ago; and therefore, we have requested Bud continue as president and chief executive officer. We have great confidence that Bud will guide us through this difficult macro economic environment and position our Company for future growth and profitability."

Mr. Bergren commented, "I welcome the opportunity to continue to lead Bon-Ton's strong, experienced management team and dedicated group of associates. We are facing today's challenges with effective execution for a better and more profitable tomorrow, as well as working towards enhancing value for Bon-Ton shareholders and offering exciting new prospects for our customers and associates.
