310 exhibitors from 19 countries to showcase latest shoe trends at GDS

GLOBAL SHOES – the leading trade show for sourcing – held from 13 to 15 March 2009 is all geared up with a comprehensive range despite the difficult economic times. At the foremost event for OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturers) and volume suppliers 310 exhibitors from 19 countries will be showcasing a panoply of women's, men's, kid's and sports shoes not forgetting casual and wellness footwear in Düsseldorf exhibition halls 8a and 8b.
Despite an approximately 29% drop in exhibitors since the previous event in the wake of the global cyclical downswing nearly all market leaders will be present at GLOBAL SHOES. Upon requests voiced by the sector GLOBAL SHOES will once again be held in parallel with GDS – International Event for Shoes & Accessories.
Summing up the situation Kirstin Deutelmoser, Director of GLOBAL SHOES, said: “GLOBAL SHOES continues to be a representative reflection of the market for volume business even though this business has been massively hit by the shock waves of the global economic crisis for months.
In China alone hundreds of manufacturing sites stopped operations over the past months and many countries have seen considerable shifts in their exchange rates while key export markets like the USA or Russia are rock
bottom.
We are currently experiencing radical market adjustments, primarily in Asia, which only leaves the really strong and fit-for-the-market suppliers alive.” In a few months or years, she adds, the volume market so untransparent until now will be left clearer and more manageable.
Retailers, especially, will therefore benefit from the current developments at the end of the crisis. “Against the background of a changed market situation we will definitely take a close look at the concept of GLOBAL SHOES once more and adapt the trade fair to the current situation.”
The forthcoming GLOBAL SHOES – leading trade show for sourcing and GDS – International Event for Shoes & Accessories – will be held at the Düsseldorf Exhibition Centre from 13 to 15 March 2009.
Altogether 1,110 exhibitors from 38 countries (correct as of: 11/02/2009) will be presenting the latest shoe and bag styles. At GDS 1,870 collections will be on display for Autumn/Winter 2009/10 plus trends for the current season.
