Tawfique Abdullah (R) after receiving award from the ruler
Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai conferred on Damas, the renowned jewellery and watch retailer, the Appreciation Award under the Dubai Quality Appreciation Award Programme (DQAP) yesterday.

The prestigious award was presented to Tawfique Abdullah, Chairman of Damas Jewellery at the Dubai Quality Award (DQA) ceremony held at the Grand Hyatt Hotel, Dubai. The award is based on the European Foundation for Quality Management Framework (EFQM) where the performance of participating firms is measured against strict parameters.

The Dubai Quality Awards started in 1994 is a process for recognizing role model organizations and was established under the patronage of HH Sheikh Mohammed. It has since been considered the quality roadmap and the most valuable framework for all organisations in Dubai to measure their business performance and to achieve higher growth through leadership, innovation and continuous improvement.

The Dubai Quality Award (DQA), Dubai Quality Appreciation Program (DQAP) and the Dubai Program for Government Excellence have all contributed significantly to the improved awareness of quality issues in the business and Government community of the Emirate. By participating and supporting Dubai's Drive for Quality promoted by the Dubai Quality Award, the city can maintain its competitive edge, meet its challenges and realize its stated vision of becoming the world's most favourite centre for business and trade.

Commenting on this new and memorable milestone in its glittering journey, Tawfique Abdullah, Chairman of Damas Jewellery said: “We at Damas feel extremely honoured to receive this appreciation award for quality by the Ruler of Dubai whose vision leads the nation. We constantly strive to understand the needs of our customers and to deliver quality and innovative products through best business practices, provide an excellent working environment for our people and maintain a strong commitment to our society. ”

He further added, “Damas especially feels proud to have shared its unique business practices with the rest of the corporate fraternity which we are sure will benefit the retail sector and the society at large. As the Dubai Quality Award criterion is based on widely proven business practices it's my personal opinion that every forward-thinking organisation should participate in such awards and reap the ensuing benefits. The principles of DQA are invaluable to an organisation as they are geared to help guide its business strategy and operations aligned with its mission and goals.”

The Journey of Damas began in 1907, and today it has grown from a UAE based company into a global fashion and jewellery network spanning seventeen countries across four continents. The key to its success has been a visionary and inspirational leadership, creativity, committed customer service, a dedicated workforce and lots of sincere hard work. In alignment with its mission, Damas is a house for brands of international repute in addition to its own in-house brands.

It has a unique business model to cater to the luxury needs of people according to their demographic profile. The business model concepts namely are Damas Les Exclusive, Damas Semi Exclusive, Damas 18 K, Damas 22K, Damas Kids, Mono brand Store, Multi Brand Stores and Damas watches. Having celebrated its centenary year of its journey towards excellence in 2007, Damas was the first company in the retail sector to go public in 2008 and was listed in Dubai International Financial Exchange.
