Love In he Time of Cholera” the Nobel Prize winning book by Gabriel Garcia Marquez, forms the inspiration for the spring/summer '10 menswear collection by Narendra Kumar. Based in the Caribbean in the early 1900s, it traces the story of Florentino Ariza.
It is a story of love and longing and his quest for Fermina Daza. His transformation from a love obsessed young man to an unrequited poet and his rise in a society torn apart by a civil strife to his ultimate requital. The colours of the Caribbean form the essence of the palate, while the decorative Spanish spirit influences form the embellishment and inspire the silhouette.
The tailored collection progresses from the flamboyance of youth to the restive poet with his lounge inspired looks. This is followed by an imperial style sporty period, to end with a formal decorative look coinciding with the various stages in his life. While detailing forms the highlight of the collection, the fabrics used to impart these are linens, cotton silk, denim, velvets, silk wool and brocades.
