George Clooney suited in Zegna's Sartoria for 'The American'

In this year's latest and highly anticipated movie release “The American”, George Clooney is suited in Ermenegildo Zegna, the timeless and sophisticated Italian menswear brand.
In this film, directed by Anton Corbijn, Clooney plays Jack, a gun-maker and professional assassin, who wants to escape and change his life, but the tranquillity he desires will only come upon his completion of one final mission. The movie is set in a small village in the Abruzzi region of Italy.
The outfit that George Clooney wears in “The American” is a classical yet contemporary Ermenegildo Zegna two button suit from the “Sartoria” line, made in the crease-resistant 'Traveller' fabric of superfine merino wool, with an Egyptian cotton formal shirt and classic leather lace-ups. Throughout the film the majority of Jack's casual wardrobe and eyewear was also supplied by Ermenegildo Zegna.
For Clooney's wardrobe, acclaimed costume designer Suttirat Anne Larlarb, who began her career with director Danny Boyle in both Sunshine and Slumdog Millionaire, went with “timeless classics — nothing branded or slick”. Larlarb says: “The only kind of high design was his final suit at the end of the movie. He has to acquire a suit for a procession, and in all these towns that's where you wear your Sunday finest.”
“We had a lot of big name designers vying for the opportunity to provide this suit,” she continues. “But the only designer I seriously considered was [Ermenegildo] Zegna. Their suits have an understated quality that doesn't rely on fashion- forwardness. It's traditional tailoring but very modern and clean. [Jack's final suit] is not a 'look at me' suit — when you put on that suit, you look at the person. But other than getting the tailoring right, it wasn't designed for him. And because we needed half a dozen suits [to shoot the scene], we were able to ask [Zegna] to make repeats for us. Throughout the film, much of Jack's staple wardrobe and eyewear also relied on his other Zegna pieces”
