The Japan Fashion Week (JFW) presents tokyoeye - a unique cross-cultural exchange initiative by Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) which brings the best of Japanese fashion to India with a showcasing of Eight of Japan's leading designers at the forthcoming Lakme Fashion Week in Mumbai next month.

The Japan Fashion Week Organization and the organizers of the Lakme fashion Week have inked a collaboration with their cross-cultural exchange initiative, tokyoeye, that will see the best of Japanese fashion talent showcasing in India. The government-aided project aims to create enterprising relationships and provides access to international collections to buyers from India and all over the world.

As per the tie up, three Japanese designers ie Tamae Hirokawa, Motonari Ono and Sara Arai will showcase their collections at a show on 11th March 2011 during Lakmé Fashion Week . According to Ms.Akiko Shinoda, Director International Affairs of JFWO “With the evolution of consumer tastes and heightened interest in Japanese fashion, the Indian market is a big demand base for our iconic Japanese fashion designer”.

The collections being presented by the Japanese designers vary greatly. The label “araisara” by designer Sara Arai. Inspired by culture, scenery, natural surroundings, and spirit of the Orient in order to express the connection between traditional culture and fashion through new eyes, “araisara” delivers through fashion, our dreams to the current world and our culture to the world of tomorrow.

Designer Tamae Hirokawa of label SOMARTA is already famous for her 'skin series' which was based on the concept of 'the possibilities of apparel for a body'.

The five designers who will have stalls at LFW are Hideaki Horie, Ayaka Kurata, Naomi Yamamoto, Ayaka Kurata and Michail Gkinis.

“Two of these designers have been selected to showcase in India since they have traveled here before and have gone back with influences of Indian vibrancy, colour , motifs and fashion sensibilities. They have successfully translated these influences into creations that are a cutting edge representation of global fashion appeal with an Asian influence”, adds Mr. Atul Parekh of Infinity Creations, coordinator of the initiative in India.

The Japanese Designers will proudly showcase meaningful progressive fashion keeping the raison d'etre of the wearer in mind.

Somarta was recently invited to present a fashion show at the second edition of the international fashion week in St.-Petersburg “Aurora Fashion Week”, initiated by the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation, which every season gathers world famous designers such as Manish Arora, Mary Katrantzou, David Koma and Hannah Marshall. Tamae Hirokawa has also been working as stylist for celebrities including Ladt Gaga. Motonari Ono also designs costumes for many artists in Japan and works as a professional illustrator and anime for magazines, advertisements and others. His creations are elegant and uses his originally created lace as his signature. Sara Arai has developed a unique range of traditional Japanese techniques in fabric with a contemporary appeal. Her amazingly made-to-order clothes are of extreme comfort and beautiful line.

tokyoeye is a project initiated by the Ministry of exconomy, trade & industry which supports Japanese Fashion brands in their expansion abroad while promoting the “Cool Japan” concept and filtering it through a Tokyo perspective. Tokyoeye will be held in India for the first time organized by the Japan Fashion Week Organization. Tokyoeye will be glad to present shows of the Japan Fashion Week leading designers - “araisara”, “motonari ono” and “SOMARTA”.
