A kimono-style belted plastic coat and wrap ensemble, designed by English fashion creator Gareth Pugh, has been picked up as Dress of the Year for 2014 by Fashion Museum, Bath, Somerset, England.

Part of the 31-year-old London designer’s Autumn/Winter 2014 collection, the plastic sheet crafted super-sized structural ensemble, paired with a twisted cream calico trousers that morph into boots and an elastic hair net, will be on display at the museum throughout 2015.

Chosen by Katie Grand, editor-in-chief of Love magazine, for the museum, the dress, called Look 41, has been added to the facility’s expansive list of Dress of the Year collection, a permanent record highlighting the significant changes in international fashion over the years.

Started in 1963, Dress of the Year collection aims to showcase the creativity of top fashion names in the last 50 years. Each year, the Fashion Museum asks a different fashion expert to choose an ensemble from the international fashion collections that they feel is the most exciting, or directional, or simply sums up the year in fashion.

Some of the featured pieces in the collection include a 1963 Mary Quant grey wool dress and cream chiffon blouse as well as a 2013 pink dress with gaffer tape, shoes designed by Christopher Kane. (PB)
