The colours used are russet red, min red, laser brown, mulled wine and ginger. There are easy shapes that take dramatic twists, hidden beneath the folds, as is complex human character: layered; difficult to decipher.
Design details: Deepika Govind combines traditional intricate ikat weaves with modern ikat prints, mixing fabrics to create yet another “Study of Contrasts”, that has been the underlying theme of earlier collections.
The garments undergo unusual layering and dramatic texturing details.
There has also been experimentation with various printing techniques such as discharge printing, etc.
Fabrics: There is an extensive and innovative use of ikat weaves and prints on bamboo, lycra, muga silk and a cross-section of Bhagalpur silks.
Credits: Footwear: concepts were given to INC 5 for design execution.
Dance-theatre: concept executed by the celebrated modern dance troupe, Stem (piece choreographed by Madhu Natraj, and executed by dancers Balaji Akul and Janardhan Urs).
The dramatic portrayal of the modern-day dilemma brings the motif of the collection alive.
Music: composed and performed by The Unknowns, an incredibly talented Bangalore based group.
