Italian-based sports company Lotto Sport Italia SPA will join hands with local partners to set up a retail and wholesale management company in Shanghai.
The company also aims at opening more than 200 outlets in major cities in China by 2008, said Andrea Tomat, president of Lotto.
Lotto wants to become one of the leading sports and leisure apparel brands in China, despite the fact that it is a latecomer compared with other foreign brands.
Lotto opened its first joint venture in China on Tuesday with Hembly International Holdings Ltd from Hong Kong.
The Lotto China Region Supply Chain Management Centre was founded in the Jiangning Economic and Technical Development Zone of Nanjing, the capital of East China's Jiangsu Province.
"The co-operation between Hembly and Lotto not only strengthens and expands the long-term strategic partnership, it also serves as a solid foundation for Lotto's business development in China," said Tomat.
The centre will have functions including product design and development, manufacturing, quality control, picking & packing and inventory control.
Lotto is responsible for design and retail, and Hembly is in charge of manufacturing and logistics.
