Filene's Basement offers low price sale of wedding gowns

Off price retailer Filene's Basement's offers 'Running of the Brides' low price annual sale of wedding gown.
When: Friday, March 3, 2006 -- doors open at 8:00am
Where: Filene's Basement at 4 Union Square South (above Whole Foods Market)
What: Annual sale of wedding gowns at ridiculously low prices.
Hundreds of brides-to-be and their "shopping teams" will line up early Friday morning outside the store waiting for the doors open at 8:00am.
Why: Each bride is hoping to find the wedding gown of her dreams at a drastically reduced price.
More dresses than ever before -- over 2,300 gowns from designer and famous name bridal houses priced at $249, $499 and a few very high end at $699.
Cause for excitement? At bridal salons these gowns would cost between $850 and $9,000 and higher -- a savings of 71 percent to 92 percent!
When the doors part, there's the "rush to the racks" by hundreds of women on a mission.
They grab armloads of dresses and try them on in the aisles.
Then the bartering begins, as brides trade one dress for another to come up with the perfect dress.
Brides-to-be and their helpers do whatever they can to distinguish members of their team in the crowd -- they put their team name on t-shirts and sweatshirts, wear the same colors, wear big hats so they can be seen above the crowd.
Some communicate with walkie talkies or text messaging.
In the beginning, the sale is very chaotic, but joy and tears abound when they find the perfect wedding gown at a bargain price.
