The Pondicherry-based Hidesign brand bag-making company has progressed beyond bags and plans to enter apparel segment in the near future under its existing Hidesign brand name.

The Rs 84-crore Hidesign brand expects to grow at 25 percent and cross a turnover of Rs 100 crore this year.

According to Dilip Kapur, President, Hidesign, the company plans to progress to apparel especially in overseas markets such as China.

The company has entered into joint ventures (JV) in Dubai, Malaysia, South Africa, Russia and recently China.

Hidesign intends to progress from bags into more areas, beginning with apparel in China due to a demand from local partner to enter into new segments, said Kapur.

Hidesign is also weighing in the option of having an Indian JV who would invest in the company.

Investing Rs 17 crore in forging JVs in various companies with its existing distributors, Hidesign intends funding the same through internal accruals, Kapur said.

Hidesign entered the Chinese market with its first shop at Hong Kong airport.

The next outlet may be launched in Shanghai through its distribution partner, Ray Chan.

Other recent JVs forged include Jashanmal Group in Dubai.

It has appointed distributors in Denmark and Sweden.

Earlier the Hidesign had appointed agencies such as O&M and Contract but it has now planned to haveits own in house campaigns.
